The Colt 1911 (M1911) is a single-action, recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol. Designed by John Moses Browning, it is famously chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge and served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985
